Student Collaborators

The students who worked on the project in 2012-2013 made an important contribution, and I have kept their information here on the site, although the collaboration with both Smith College and Springfield College ended in 2013. Since that time, I have mostly worked on the project on my own, as I shifted from teaching to focusing on developing a modular playground system.

My name is Amanda Devoe and I am from Hamden, Connecticut. I am a student at Springfield College in Springfield, MA, studying Psychology and Occupational Therapy. I became a part of this project because I have always been interested in working with children. I am very fascinated by the development of young children and how the changing world is effecting their growth.

Kristen Krumbiegel is a senior at Smith College. She is a psychology major and education minor. Most of her studies have focused on the development of children. She has also worked in preschools since high school and really enjoys watching children grow and develop.

Megan Lonsdale is a junior at Smith College where she is majoring in engineering science and minoring in education studies. Her main focus in the Bogin Playscape project is play equipment design and safety. She enjoys combining her loves of engineering and working with children through her work with this project.

Barbara Mizrahi, MSEd, is currently studying occupational therapy at Springfield College.
She has worked with kids for almost twenty years; most of that time as an early childhood teacher. She considers kids to be natural scientists and artists in the truest sense. That is, they actively pursue knowledge and understanding of their world and are continuously sharing their interpretations with those of us who get to spend time with them.  She is hoping that by participating in this project, she can learn more about early childhood development, share some of what she has learned through experience and try to find ways to make play opportunities more available to kids and the adults who educate and care for them.

My name is Sarah Perry. I am from Collinsville, IL. I am a sophomore at Springfield College studying dance and occupational therapy. I was interested in this project because I would like to work with children in the future where I can create new, fun ways to help develop their gross motor skills to the appropriate level.

Elissa G. Maruca is a graduate student studying occupational therapy at Springfield College. She has experience as a developmental specialist and is a Certified Early Intervention Specialist through Department of Public Health. Elissa is excited about being a part of the Bogin Playscape Project and believes in the importance of play and allowing kids to be kids.
“It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them.”
~Leo F. Buscaglia
